Ministries

Those brothers to whom the Lord has given the grace of working may work faithfully and devotedly so that, while avoiding idleness, the enemy of the soul, they do not extinguish the Spirit of holy prayer and devotion to which all temporal things must contribute.  In payment for their work they may receive whatever is necessary for the bodily support of themselves and their brothers, excepting coin or money, and let them do this humbly as is becoming for servants of God and followers of most holy poverty  (Later Rule, Chapter V).

With attention to the Rule of Our Holy St. Francis, the Franciscan friars of Sacred Heart Province engage in all sorts of different ministries.  It has been said that no work is excluded by our Rule.  Franciscan Friars are not devoted to one ministry or one type of work.  To that end, Franciscan friars of Sacred Heart Province are not only ordained clergy, but also engage in manual and professional kinds of ministerial outreach.  Friars of Sacred Heart Province have been doctors and bricklayers, lawyers and carpenters, pastors and maintenance men, teachers and care givers.  In communion with each other, we are called to evangelize others and ourselves as we live and proclaim the Gospel, respectful of the unique cultures in which we work.
