The Franciscan Missionary Union is the official structure established to support the missionary endeavors of the Sacred Heart Province of the Order of Friars Minor (headquartered in St. Louis, MO), in particular, and the missionary endeavors of the Order of Friars Minor, world-wide. To this end it engages in a twofold program: (1) information and conscientization regarding the missionary Church today and the problems of the Third World, and (2) collaboration with the missionaries in their programs of evangelization and development by providing both funds and materials. The Franciscans of the Sacred Heart Province are engaged in two areas of missionary endeavor: the Franciscan Vice-Province of São Benedito da Amazônia in the Amazon-Tapajos River Basins of northern Brazil, and the Franciscan Vice-Province of St. Benoît l'Africain, in Zaire, Africa. |
