Brother John Bush was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 19, 1919 to Thomas Grant Bush and Catherine Sharkey. He is the youngest of five children with two brothers and two sisters.

His most memorable experience was being accepted as a tertiary brother at Quincy College on October 7, 1948.

He enjoys watching movies especially action movies involving gangsters and Clint Eastwood. His most gratifying experiences were being accepted as a professed brother and giving out food and/or clothing to the poor in Chicago.
